You are a serial liar and you lack common sense- former President Olusegun Obasanjo tells Awujale of Ijebuland
Few weeks ago, the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru
Adetona, released his autobiography titled “Awujale: The
Autobiography of Alaiyeluwa, Oba S. K. Adetona, Ogbagba
II”.
In the book, the monarch alleged that former President
Olusegun Obasanjo used the Economic and Financial Crimes
Commission EFCC to blackmail and extort money from some
wealthy Nigerians, particularly his cousin, Mike Adenuga, who
had a running with the Antigraft agency in 2006.
Although the monarch's autobiography was published in 2010,
extracts from the book was circulated by some unknown
individuals recently.
In his response, Obasanjo wrote a letter dated December
30th 2016 to the monarch, countering his allegations and
addressed him as a serial liar who lacked common sense.
According to Obasanjo, common sense suggests that
rumor mongering should not be associated with a monarch
of the caliber of the Oba of Ijebuland. Full text of

my attention.
Your assertion in the publication was a tissue of lies and
untruths. Olopade is one of my best friends and yes, I
would be at his birthday celebration but I would not
have invited Mike, your cousin, to meet me anywhere
other than my office or official residence as President of
Nigeria. Kabiyesi, do you think I would set the press up
to capture me and Mike in a photograph for the
newspapers? That would be puerile of me as President.
Of course, I could not say that Mike could not do that.
That you think that I, as President of Nigeria, would
descend to such depravity makes me think of you much
less than I thought of you, until now.
The invitation to Mike to contribute to the building of
the Library block of Bells University was issued to him
by the then Vice-Chancellor, Professor Julius Okogie, who
never told me about inviting Mike to so contribute until
Mike pulled out. And that I have not and I will not talk
to Mike about it should convince you that I know
nothing about its genesis.
Under my watch, Economic and Financial Crimes
Commission, EFCC, was free to do its job as it saw fit.
Common sense would suggest that wild rumours should
not be perpetrated by an Oba of your calibre. Kabiyesi,
your cousin did not tell you that My Chief of Staff,
Abdul Mohammed, put his reputation on line by assuring
EFCC that Mike would go nowhere and they should trust
him to give him his passport. I did not even know that
Abdul had done that until the Chairman of EFCC, Nuhu
Ribadu, reported the case of my Chief of Staff seemingly
colluding with Mike to run out of the country. But I had
implicit confidence in my Chief of Staff and I was to
resolve the issue. Should your cousin not have mentioned
to Abdul who guaranteed the release of his passport his
fears and intention to go on exile?
On several occasions, Nuhu Ribadu has asserted that,
under my watch, he was a free agent to do his work as
he deemed fit. Where it was necessary, he reported the
outcome of his work to me and the subsequent or
follow-up actions he intended to take. On no occasion
did I guide, lead or direct him on what to do.
Mike did not need to send anything to me to satisfy me,
he needed to satisfy EFCC and so your sending any
documents to me was insinuating that I am the one to
be satisfied rather than the EFCC. So, such documents
were not paid any attention by me. You, as the cousin
and part beneficiary from Mike as you have told me in
the past, would not be able to see the tree from the
forest as far as the mode of operation of Nuhu Ribadu
was concerned viz-a-viz Mike. If the EFCC was
investigating anybody, I did not consider it right for me
as the President of Nigeria to be undermining EFCC by
hobnobbing with that person. EFCC must be given free
hand to do its work. Even if such a person was my
child, the best I could do would be to secure a good
lawyer to handle the matter before the EFCC for that
child.
It is not only in the case of Obajana Cement that you
were rumour-mongering about me. You have done that
repeatedly on many occasions. The latest one you did in
2016 was you telling me that you heard that I had gone
to Rasak Okoya to seek to marry her daughter, Abiola,
when it was the girl that came to appeal to me to
intervene to placate and appeal to her father to forgive
her for all her misbehaviour to her father. I did and the
father and daughter were reconciled. I told you even then
that it was unbecoming of an Oba. Of course, I am used
to such rumours, slandering and insinuations since my
days as a Unit Commander in the Army and I have
developed thick skin. If ten per cent of the rumours
ascribing businesses and properties I know nothing about
were true, I would be the richest man on earth.
But recently, when Aliko, yourself and myself were
together, Aliko assured you that I never ever had a
single share in any of Aliko’s business interests but
whenever he has called on me to help within and without
to promote his business interest, I have always helped
and I will always do because that is part of my job as a
Nigerian leader – to help Nigerians grow their businesses
or interests – and I have done that for other Nigerians
and indeed for non-Nigerians, Africans and non-Africans
who have requested me for help.
It was revealing to me on that occasion when Aliko made
the point that one of his directors on his cement
company is somebody very close to you.
I owed nobody any apologies in the course of doing my
work as I believe I should do it or in the course of
defending the interest of Nigeria and defending my
integrity. As I could not open the treasury for S. O.
Bakare for your so-called political support to me, I did
not regard that as an offence. To the extent that I
believed and regarded as proper, I instructed Tony Anenih
as Minister of Works to patronize S. O. Bakare as a
Peugeot car dealer. I will not comment on Atiku issue
that you touched upon in your book because I have dealt
with that elsewhere and you were only dabbling into an
area where and thing you are absolutely ignorant about.
All that you wanted me to do in respect of Mike was
improper whether when I was President or when I was
out of office. I must not be seen to be in the way of
allowing law to take its natural course. All I should do is
to help the course of the law and help secure a good
lawyer to help the process.
It is of interest to me that Mike did not tell you that
when he wanted national honour, he came to me and I
did not react until Babangida recommended him and said,
“Of all those I have helped, Mike is one of the most
appreciative.”
Kabiyesi, if I have squandered all the goodwill I had, you
would not have contacted me on behalf of All Progressive
Party, APC, to receive them in 2014 and you would not
have been personally present when I received them as I
demanded. I probably have greater goodwill today
internally and externally than I had in office.
Kabiyesi, the total sum of what you have put down in
those pages of your book is that I dislike Mike. Maybe I
need to remind you that if there was any iota of truth
in such a position or mindset, Mike would not have been
granted the mobile telephone licence which made him a
billionaire. It was my prerogative as the President so to
do. You may also be reminded that in the first round of
the auction which Mike did not make, the country earned
US$285 million for each licence. The country earned only
US$200 million from the licence transaction with Mike
and in the subsequent transaction with Etisalat, the
country earned US$400 million. It was a deliberate action
on my part that a Nigerian should own one of the
licences. Anybody else but Mike could have been that
Nigerian.
Kabiyesi, the type of hate propaganda you have tried to
project in that section of your book against my person is
grossly unbecoming of an Oba let alone an Oba of your
status and stature.
However, I still accord you the respect which I believe an
Oba should be accorded and one for that matter who I
presume to be a friend. In spite of your unfortunate
projection, my position remains the same – respect for
you as an Oba and a friend.

"America loves winners, but victory does not absolve" Chimamanda Adichie on moral duty in the wake of Trump's election
In a post published on The New Yorker, acclaimed
Nigerian writer writes on race, identity, politics,
misogyny, the media and our moral duty after the
election of Donald Trump as the President of

"America has always been aspirational to me,
Even when I chafed at its hypocrisies, it
somehow always seemed sure, a nation that
knew what it was doing,
refreshingly free of that anything-can-happen
existential uncertainty so familiar to developing
nations. But no longer. The election of Donald Trump
has flattened the poetry in America’s founding
philosophy: the country born from an idea of
freedom is to be governed by an unstable,
stubbornly uninformed, authoritarian demagogue. And
in response to this there are people living in
visceral fear, people anxiously trying to discern
policy from bluster, and people kowtowing as though
to a new king. Things that were recently pushed to
the corners of America’s political space—overt
racism, glaring misogyny, anti-intellectualism—are
once again creeping to the center.
Now is the time to resist the slightest extension
in the boundaries of what is right and just. Now is
the time to speak up and to wear as a badge of
honor the opprobrium of bigots. Now is the time to
confront the weak core at the heart of America’s
addiction to optimism; it allows too little room for
resilience, and too much for fragility. Hazy visions
of “healing” and “not becoming the hate we
hate” sound dangerously like appeasement. The
responsibility to forge unity belongs not to the
denigrated but to the denigrators. The premise for
empathy has to be equal humanity; it is an
injustice to demand that the maligned identify with
those who question their humanity.

thousand votes in a handful of states, does not
guarantee respect. Nobody automatically deserves
deference on ascending to the leadership of any

disrespect from all quarters. By far the most
egregious insult directed toward him, the racist
movement tamely termed “birtherism,” was
championed by Trump.
Yet, a day after the election, I heard a journalist
on the radio speak of the vitriol between Obama
and Trump. No, the vitriol was Trump’s. Now is
the time to burn false equivalencies forever.
Pretending that both sides of an issue are equal
when they are not is not “balanced” journalism;
it is a fairy tale—and, unlike most fairy tales, a
disingenuous one.
Now is the time to refuse the blurring of memory.
Each mention of “gridlock” under Obama must be
wrought in truth: that “gridlock” was a deliberate
and systematic refusal of the Republican Congress
to work with him. Now is the time to call things
what they actually are, because language can
illuminate truth as much as it can obfuscate it.
Now is the time to forge new words. “Alt-right”
is benign. “White-supremacist right” is more
accurate.
Now is the time to talk about what we are
actually talking about. “Climate contrarian”
obfuscates. “Climate-change denier” does not.
And because climate change is scientific fact, not
opinion, this matters.
Now is the time to discard that carefulness that
too closely resembles a lack of conviction. The
election is not a “simple racism story,” because
no racism story is ever a “simple” racism story,
in which grinning evil people wearing white burn
crosses in yards. A racism story is complicated, but
it is still a racism story, and it is worth parsing.
Now is not the time to tiptoe around historical
references. Recalling Nazism is not extreme; it is
the astute response of those who know that
history gives both context and warning.
Now is the time to recalibrate the default
assumptions of American political discourse. Identity
politics is not the sole preserve of minority voters.
This election is a reminder that identity politics in
America is a white invention: it was the basis of
segregation. The denial of civil rights to black
Americans had at its core the idea that a black
American should not be allowed to vote because
that black American was not white. The endless
questioning, before the election of Obama, about
America’s “readiness” for a black President was
a reaction to white identity politics. Yet “identity
politics” has come to be associated with
minorities, and often with a patronizing
undercurrent, as though to refer to nonwhite people
motivated by an irrational herd instinct. White
Americans have practiced identity politics since the
inception of America, but it is now laid bare,
impossible to evade.
Now is the time for the media, on the left and
right, to educate and inform. To be nimble and
alert, clear-eyed and skeptical, active rather than
reactive. To make clear choices about what truly
matters.
Now is the time to put the idea of the “liberal
bubble” to rest. The reality of American tribalism
is that different groups all live in bubbles. Now is
the time to acknowledge the ways in which
Democrats have condescended to the white working
class—and to acknowledge that Trump condescends
to it by selling it fantasies. Now is the time to
remember that there are working-class Americans
who are not white and who have suffered the same
deprivations and are equally worthy of news profiles.
Now is the time to remember that “women” does
not equal white women. “Women” must mean all
women.
Now is the time to elevate the art of questioning.
Is the only valid resentment in America that of
white males? If we are to be sympathetic to the
idea that economic anxieties lead to questionable
decisions, does this apply to all groups? Who
exactly are the élite?
Now is the time to frame the questions differently.
If everything remained the same, and Hillary Clinton
were a man, would she still engender an overheated,
outsized hostility? Would a woman who behaved
exactly like Trump be elected? Now is the time to
stop suggesting that sexism was absent in the
election because white women did not overwhelmingly
vote for Clinton. Misogyny is not the sole preserve
of men.
The case for women is not that they are inherently
better or more moral. It is that they are half of
humanity and should have the same opportunities—
and be judged according to the same standards—as
the other half. Clinton was expected to be perfect,
according to contradictory standards, in an election
that became a referendum on her likability.
Now is the time to ask why America is far behind
many other countries (see: Rwanda) in its
representation of women in politics. Now is the
time to explore mainstream attitudes toward
women’s ambition, to ponder to what extent the
ordinary political calculations that all politicians
make translate as moral failures when we see them
in women. Clinton’s careful calibration was read as
deviousness. But would a male politician who is
carefully calibrated—Mitt Romney, for example—
merely read as carefully calibrated?
Now is the time to be precise about the meanings
of words. Trump saying “They let you do it”
about assaulting women does not imply consent,
because consent is what happens before an act.
Now is the time to remember that, in a wave of
dark populism sweeping the West, there are
alternative forms. Bernie Sanders’s message did
not scapegoat the vulnerable. Obama rode a populist
wave before his first election, one marked by a
remarkable inclusiveness. Now is the time to
counter lies with facts, repeatedly and unflaggingly,
while also proclaiming the greater truths: of our
equal humanity, of decency, of compassion. Every
precious ideal must be reiterated, every obvious
argument made, because an ugly idea left
unchallenged begins to turn the color of normal. It
does not have to be like this."

32. I see the seat of an African leader empty
because of death.
33. Some politicians are agitating to rule forever. As
long as they are on the seat, there's nothing
anyone can do about it. Hear what God said about
them. He said ' Is it not the living that will rule?
The dead body can't rule.
34. I see thick dark cloud over sokoto. Please pray
for sokoto state in 2017.
35. Pray for the aviation industry. I saw thick dark
cloud on one of the airlines. I pray and I cancel
such aircraft crash in Jesus name.
36. There will be some cabal in the ruling party
that will move the motion to remove the National
chairman of the ruling party. They will pass vote of
no confidence against him. They will cry and criticise
him more. It will be very strong just as it happened
in PDP , It will happen in APC. I see the seat of
the national ruling party leader shaking before the
next election.
37. Buhari will do his best to move Nigeria forward
but all his best will be thwarted by the enemies of
Nigeria. It is not about Buhari, it is about some
cabals who are enemies of Nigeria. Though we have
angels sitting at the helms of affairs, if this cabal
don't die, Nigeria will remain in a cage.
38. There will be mass loss of Job most especially
in the banking industry. There will be lot of
retrenchment.
39. The budget of 2017 will suffer a lot of strong
set back in terms of implementation. It is like the
spirit will be willing but the flesh will be weak
40 I see a particular deputy governor taking over
from a governor. I can't tell the circumstances that
led to this, we should pray.
41 I see a strong terrorist attack in form of
chemical weapon against a country in Europe and
especially the attack will be carried out on a school.
I see children dying helplessly. I pray God will
deliver and avert it in Jesus name.
42. There will be strong assassination attack against
the pope but God will deliver him. The pope will try
to bring peace between so many nations that lack
peace and he will make major achievements mostly
in his peace agenda.
43 America : I see the new president approaching
the helm of affair with radical apporach. The
American-China relationship will go sour. It will go
bitter, cold and that will so much affect a lot of
things in some areas in America. So many dirty deals
of the past regime will be exposed by the current
regime.
44. There will be attempt to attack the incoming
president of America but God will preserve him.
45 I see some American political elite that will
maintain political division and this will affect the
performance of the new president. They will not
share some of his views and as a result of that,
the division will be so strong that it will be
evident.
46. The conflict between the USA and China will
erupt and it will slow the wheel of progress for
both Nations.
47. There will be an alliance between the USA and
Russia and the discussion which will not go down
with some political elite and that's why I said it
will slow the wheel of Progress
48. The new style of the new American president
will weaken the attack of terrorist in some other
parts of the world. It will be so strong and the
signal will be so strong and there will be major
breakththrough than the Obama's regime
49.INDIA : I see a serious escalating conflict
between China and India over the nothern border of
Kashmir.
50. There will be a great revival in the Nation of
India and 6 major prophets will rise up in India that
will cause major changes in terms of Christian revival
in the nation of India. Christianity in India will soon
be a wide fire catching all over and it will be
accepted and move forward than ever before.
51. I see the government of India having a strong
alliance with 3 powerful Nations in 2017. I see it so
very strong.
52. I see a train accident that will be averted but
some people will still die. The hazard will not be as
intended by the enemies.
53. The political environment in India will be tensed
and I see the ruling party holding to power.
CHINA : 54. The economy will be very strong,
viable, and it will overtake others economically .
55 China will become a strong threat to world
powers mostly of the number one one world
powers.
56. Between 2018 and 2021, China will be at the
top of the chart because of what God showed me.
57. There are some super powers we have now
that are very strong but will lose the position. Its
not as a result of failure but because there's a
shift taking place in th realm of the spirit.
58. China should pray against plane crash. I avert it
in Jesus Name.
GHANA : 59. Alot of past leaders will go to Jail
and the new president will be celebrated for just 6
months and after that he will become unpopular.
60. Ghana will soon experience the same challenge
like Nigeria. What is happening in Nigeria will be
duplicated in Ghana. The new president will do well
but his enemies will be more than his intention. I
pray for God's speedy intervention.
FRANCE : 61. There will be relative peace from
the first quarter of the year but I still see a co-
ordinated attack that will still come inside the
Nation's capital. I cancel it now!
62. In france the election will be tough and strong
because of some internal rancour. They should pray
to sustain their position, because I see the
opposition party pushing the ruling party from the
helm of affair.
GAMBIA : 63. There will be strong revolution that
will take place. I see strong military intervention .
God says they should pray against bloodshed.
64 There will be a lot of political dramas. It will
cause lot of lives. It will be one that has never
be seen. It will become news everywhere.
ZAMBIA : 65. The economy will still be struggling to
pickup. The president will do all his best to drag it
up and I see it having a steady balance in 2018.
66 : One of the serving ministers should pray to
cross to 2018 because I see an attack over his life.
God will preserve you in Jesus name.
67. A lot of people from the opposition party will
form alliance and collapse themselve into the ruling
party and will try to give the incumbent President
support.
68. The president should pray over his health. It will
be a major challenge througout his regime but God
will still keep him. There's is no grace for him to
come back after this regime because I see lot of
judas and funny people that will advise him to
return back. He shouldn't adhere because there is
no grace. Have said it before, Zambia president
please watch.
CAMEROUN : 69. The government should watch over
the border because I see the influx of boko haram
entering into the country. They should pray so that
Cameroun should not be at the receiving end of
what we are chasing from Nigeria.
70. The crisis between The English and French
speaking parts will worsen but God will bring peace.
71 The president of Cameroun should pray for his
health. I see him going overseas for an health
treatment. I pray God keeps him.
RUSSIA : 72. The Nation of Russia will have good
relationship with USA. Between 2017 - 2018, there
will be a relationship Crack between the Russian
president and USA president. It will grow sour and
become strong. It will become the battle of Ego. It
will be like a Lion and Tiger battle.
73 Russia will wax stronger despite any kind of
sanctions.
