INSPIRE THE YOUTHS WITH GIFT OF A BOOK:

Dr. Myles
Munroe in his
book-
Becoming a
Leader said
“To inspire
means to
activate,
stimulate,
energize,
illuminate or
motivate by divine influence, it means to breath into“. This
is the primary role of any book. Dr. Munroe further added
that “inspiration is the capacity to cause others to discover
themselves, their purposes and their abilities, and to maximize
their potential”.
Many developed nations have discovered that the power of
inspiration has taken their countries to greater heights. Also
Arthur P. Pereiora an Indian born motivational author and
speaker said “The reason why America was leading other
nations of the world is simply because American citizens are
constantly fed with biographies of their sons and daughters
who have reason from grass to grace”. In addition, Napoleon
Hill; the great thinker and writer said “America is what it is
because as far back as 1920’s their citizens were inculcated
with inspirational values of greatness”.
National and global institutions have also discovered the potent
powers inherent in inspiration; hence their continuous interest
in inspiring all especially the youths.
One sure way identified towards mobilizing the youths to excel
in life is through book reading and of course quality books
including leadership, biographies of people, inspiring books etc.
The power associated with book reading is a value many great
leaders and persons have discovered in life.
On book, Dr. Myles Munroe; conference speaker and author
said, I have come to understand the gifts and dreams God has
placed within me more every year. So to help develop them, I
read at least fourteen books a year. In my busy schedule, I
find time before I go to sleep and at other times to read a
few chapter. I have four brief cases and in each one I have a
book that I find time everyday to read. I make it a goal to
finish each title, so I work it into my schedule.
During the regime of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan as President of
Nigeria; to encourage reading in Nigeria, he launched “Bring
back the book campaign” in 2011 aimed at re-awakening
Nigerians on the importance of reading.
On book, Ogbo Awoke Ogbo: a Nigerian and founder of Giant
thoughts International said “My father’s library stirred me
up to what I am today. I wish parents can inculcate reading in
their children because it can transform their destinies for the
better”. He added, my father had this book titled, “Makers
of Civilization”, He said the book opened his eyes to what
people could achieve in life.
On book, Pastor John C. Maxwell; author and leadership expert
said, my father had been very strategic in my development as
I was growing up, He actually paid me to read books that he
knew would help me, Pastor Maxwell added that those book
reading experiences provided great foundation for him.
On book, Dr. Ben Carson a world acclaimed Neurologist and an
international role model for many youths admitted that his
success story became possible largely because he was
encouraged to read books and also visited local libraries in
order to learn and develop his mind which shaped his
contributions to the society.
On book, Gabriel Mercier, a onetime graduate student, Southern
New Hampshire University, Machester, N.H said “Never give
up. Strive to learn and grow everyday and put all of your
faith In God. Also read motivational quotes, stories and books
to unlock new great idea.
On book, Chief Obafemi Awolowo (late), a Nigerian Nationalist,
Lawyer, Author and Politician said “Any people that are
starved with books especially the right type of books, will
suffer intellectual malnutrition, stagnation and atrophy”.
On book, Dr. Rotimi Egunjobi , the Librarian of the Adeyemi
College of Education (ACE) Ondo State, South West Nigeria
stated “Nigerian youth should show more interest in
knowledge acquisition through regular reading which guarantees
right information that would help in developing their intellect
and make them useful citizens in the society.
Reading will improve information literacy of the youths for
societal change. In addition, it creates improved internet
opportunities amongst the youths which transform the society.
On book, Desiderius Erasmus said “When I get little money I
buy books, and if any is left, I buy food and clothes”.
Reading promotes talent development and supports positive
civic engagement of young people. Youth civic engagement
would create youth empowerment leading to self reliance and
entrepreneurship accomplishments. Youth Civic Engagement also
connotes the various activities our youths are involved in to
provide developmental values at all levels including in our
communities. Such youths civic engagement equips them with
work experiences, learning of new skills and leadership skills-
like responsibility and accountability challenges, leading the
youth to become “Change Agent” in the society.
To drive our youths towards realizing the importance of reading
towards building strong morale background for our better
society, we should all embrace Given out Books as Gift via
Donate Book Project to enable mobilize books for distribution
to the youths. Individuals, institutions and government should
all be vanguard of this project. This gift of books to inspire
our youths should be encouraged by all to enable build the
youths for future challenges.
